Football clubs are readying their checkbooks ahead of yet another January transfer period, but only nine days in, we have already seen what could be one of the strangest deals in this, or any other window.
Welcome to the curious case of Fort Lauderdale Strikers midfielder, Walter Restrepo.
Strikers’ fans will unfortunately be waking up to the news this morning that their star midfielder is on his way across America’s NASL to the San Antonio Scorpions, in a move which looks set to infuriate supporters.

It has been revealed that instead of any transfer fee or compensation for parting ways with Restrepo, Lauderdale will receive cut-price transportation arrangements when they next face the Scorpions on June 7th.
As part of the deal the Strikers’ will spend two nights in San Antonio’s Crockett Hotel, which reportedly charges $169 per night. Shark Limo’s are also mentioned briefly in the deal, so it looks like the Miami based outfit will be travelling in style during their brief stay.
The total price is expected to raise to $5,000, but we doubt that will be any consolation to Strikers’ fans.
