Reports this afternoon suggest that the self-proclaimed ‘Best in the World’, CM Punk, has left WWE after weeks of speculation surrounding his contract.
Sources within the company are saying that Punk’s ‘departure’ is closely linked to his outrage with the Royal Rumble story-line and his failure to make the Wrestlemania main-event.

Punk apparently told WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon, that he was “taking his ball and going home”, before Monday Night’s episode of RAW. And these reports, along with the fact that Punk did not appear on the show, only fuelled speculation surrounding his future.
If the rumours are true (WWE is yet to confirm), and if Punk really has left the company, it may come as a bit of a surprise to fans considering his undoubted popularity.
WWE were clearly preparing Punk for a match at Wrestlemania, where his most likely opponent would have been leader of the Authority, Triple H.
Yet, on RAW it seemed the WWE had a change of heart regarding the match and with Punk absent, the opportunity was taken to create tension between Triple H and Daniel Bryan.
Fans on Twitter have been venting their disappointment and outrage at the news:
GODDAMNIT I AM SO PISSED OFF AT WWE RIGHT NOW. DO THEY EVEN KNOW WHAT CM PUNK CAN DO FOR THE COMPANY. HOW CAN WWE PISS THIS GUY AWAY

…Bright side. Crowds hijacking the shows has been the best part of WWE the past year and I can't wait for 3hrs of CM Punk chants Monday.

We still await confirmation from CM Punk and WWE but if these reports are to be believed then Sunday’s Royal Rumble may have been Punk’s last match.
