Lorenzo Insigne Scores Controversial Goal After Ball Hits An Atalanta Player's Back As He Claims For Offside

Napoli advanced to the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on Wednesday night after a controversial goal from Lorenzo Insigne helped them beat Atalanta 3-1.

With the score level at 1-1 on 71 minutes, a hopeful ball was played over the top by the Napoli attack with Gonzalo Higuain in a wildly offside position.

Atalanta defender Christiano Del Grosso thought that too as he turned his back to claim for the free-kick – then this happened:

What he forgot was every player should play to the whistle as the ball struck his back, the officials made no call and Insigne was on hand to fire home the rebound with the Atalanta defence static.

Well, they quickly woke up as the whole team raced towards the linesman to protest – with Mario Yepes then picking up a red card.

Napoli went on to score again through Jose Callejon and compounded a miserable end to the match for Atalanta.
