
It can’t be easy sitting on the fence, being the man everyone turns to when a decision has to be made, and sometimes the pressure is just too much.
But that was the position Lee Mason found himself in last night during a pulsating League Cup semi-final between Manchester United and Sunderland at Old Trafford.
With neither side showing much guile in the upper-end of the pitch, the game was settled by a penalty shootout, which Sunderland edged thanks to some woeful finishing by David Moyes’ men.

Before all that of course, laced into the drama of the evening was one moment of particular hilarity… and it was the man in the middle who was caught in the spotlight!
In a bizarre sequence of events which saw him escape unscathed, Lee Mason can be seen wiping out both United striker Danny Welbeck and Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley without skipping a beat and continuing his run, have a look for yourself:
