Wildcard Nick Kyrgios Pulls Off Impossible Drop Shot But Fails To Make Third Round In Australian Open

Australian wildcard Nick Kyrgios entered the Margaret Court Arena in the early hours of Friday morning as a relative unknown quantity but the 18-year-old departed three hours later as a star in the making … and that’s despite losing to Frenchman Benoit Paire 6-7 (5) 6-7 (5) 6-4 6-2 6-2.

He wasn’t given much of a chance when he was drawn against No.27 seed Paire in the Australian Open but the young Aussie handled the pressure of a home-town crowd brilliantly.

The stand-out moment in the terrific performance took place in the second set with Paire on set point.

This would have been a nervy moment for any player on the tour but with a vibrant Melbourne crowd on his side, Kyrgios produced a moment of unrivaled beauty with this placed drop shot:

With Kyrgios having all but ran his legs into the ground it was a moment of magic the Aussie crowd are unlikely to forget any time soon.

Here’s hoping that Kyrgios can improve his fitness and keep these kind of performances going!
