It’s Champions League week and that means just one thing, the best players in world football are currently cosied up in their hotel rooms readying themselves for some mouth-watering midweek fixtures.
And with all these footballers jet-setting around Europe, comedian Russell Brand has been given an opportunity he simply couldn’t pass up – to stalk Lionel Messi and his Barcelona team-mates.

Barcelona will face Manchester City at the Etihad tomorrow night in the first leg of their Champions League tie and the match is undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated of the year… something Brand is clearly aware of.
The funny man tweeted earlier today confirming he is staying in the same Manchester hotel as Barcelona, before joking that he may ‘dribble’ in the Argentine’s corn flakes:
HOLY FUCK Lionel Messi is in the same hotel as me. Time for a dribbling competition. #inhiscornflakes

Brand also quipped that he may try to abduct the pint-sized forward and take him to Upton Park – the home of his beloved West Ham United:
Stalking Lionel Messi. Going to pop him in my pocket and take him to Upton Park. #hisnamewillmatchhisbedsheets

Brand finished up by tweeting Messi’s account to inform him that he was outside his hotel room, before posting a picture of himself with Messi’s door:
“@J__Lunar: @rustyrockets: @TeamMessi take note Messi.” I'm outside your door. #roomservice

I'm going in. Messi must be trapped. pic.twitter.com/AW8tIskZgm

No one has found a way of stopping Messi while he’s on the pitch, so Brand’s plan will surely be welcomed by City manager Manuel Pellegrini.
