David Moyes’ side go in to tonight’s game on the back of a 3-0 home defeat to fiercest rivals Liverpool and trailing 2-0 from the first leg in Athens. A big ask for any side let alone an underachieving United one…
Tonight’s installment however should bring back some great memories in the club’s recent Champions League history. It’s Cristiano Ronaldo and his 40-yard free-kick against Arsenal in the 2009 semi-finals at the Emirates.
The most incredible thing about this strike, besides Ronaldo’s willingness to have an attempt from such distance, was that it still caught Gunners’ keeper Manuel Almunia totally cold. He hits the ball with such pace and without sacrificing accuracy it beats the Spaniard at his near post.
Moyes will be hoping for some inspired United moments such as this one if his side are to progress to the quarter-finals this year.
