Daniele De Rossi has been dropped from the Italy squad for their friendly with Spain on Wednesday after cameras caught him punching forward Mauro Icardi during Roma‘s 0-0 draw with Inter Milan at the weekend.
National team boss Cesare Prandelli has axed the Roma midfielder for breaking his ethical code in the violent tussle with Icardi:
Not only does De Rossi pull at Icardi’s head first but he swings a strong punch to the side of his jaw in a crazy three-second burst.
The incident was not picked up by referee Mauro Bergonzi but Italian TV cameras did and the experienced Italian has been vilified for it.
A big question now surrounds whether or not De Rossi can get back into Prandelli’s good books ahead of the World Cup.
