Roma plan to move from their iconic Olympic Stadium to a new £250million home in time for the beginning of the 2016/17 Serie A season.

It is expected to house 52,500 fans with capability of reaching 60,000 at maximum.

Images were released for the Stadio Della Roma today, which will be built Tor di Valle area in the city’s southwest.

Roma President James Palotta said: “The Stadio Olimpico has been a great place for us to play but it has clearly had its time.

“(The new stadium) is clearly going to give us a competitive advantage.

‘Hopefully we will have an expedited process and a two-year construction plan.

“I want to see Francesco (Totti) be the first person to run out on that pitch”

It will be a huge investment for the Italian giants with costs expected to exceed the £250m budget once surrounding transport and infrastructure is complete.
