Division I Basketball Prospect Derrick Gordon Announces That He Is Gay

UMass guard Derrick Gordon has today announced that he is gay, making him the first openly homosexual player in Division I of NCAA basketball.

The college sophomore made the announcement to his team-mates last week and went public in an interview with ESPN’s Kate Fagan.

He cites Jason Collins, New Jersey Jets center and only openly gay player active in the NBA, as a huge inspiration to his decision.

And his decision to go public follows NFL prospect Michael Sam who announced that we was homosexual in February ahead of the league’s Draft.

Gordon took to his Twitter account today to show his happiness that the news was finally public:
