PIC: Southampton’s Groundsman Went Slightly Over The Top With St Mary’s Pitch Design For Man United Clash

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has enjoyed a fantastic Premier League campaign, with his side currently sitting pretty in eighth place.

He has earned praise and plaudits from players and managers alike for the fearless attacking style in which Southampton have played and several of his first-team squad could appear at the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

But despite the fantastic job Pochettino has done this season, in the run up to next weekend’s clash with Manchester United, it is The Saints groundsman who is reveling in the limelight – after he revealed a fantastic new pitch pattern on the St Mary’s turf.

The audacious design was revealed via Southampton’s official Twitter account:

Of course it’s not the first time groundsman Andy Gray has shown a bit of originality with the St Mary’s pitch.

Last week for the visit of Roberto Martinez’s Everton, Gray created a slick tartan design:


Pochettino will be hoping the new design will give his side a continued run of good fortune against United after they shocked the Toffees 2-0.
