WWE Champion Daniel Bryan Shocks WWE Fans: Out Indefinitely After Neck Injury

WWE Champion Daniel Bryan Shocks WWE Fans: Out Indefinitely After Neck Injury

On Thursday the WWE World Heavyweight Champ delivered some bad news, though not the Wade Barrett kind. Daniel Bryan announced to the crowd that he would undergo neck surgery this Thursday and he did not have a timetable for his return.

This is a huge blow as Bryan was recently crowned WWE World Heavyweight Champion at Wrestlemania and has been riding a growing wave of momentum for just over a year. This leaves the WWE in a precarious position with more questions than answers.

I don’t feel this is part of a storyline either. If it was, I feel Kane would’ve made an appearance during or after Bryan’s announcement. Its quite possible it is worked into a story, but I don’t feel it is one at this moment.

Just how long will Bryan be out?

This is the biggest question of all. Former champion Edge missed a year about decade a go with a serious neck injury. Athletes in other sports such as Peyton Manning have missed full seasons with neck injuries.

If Bryan is out that long then it is a huge blow to the WWE who has been without CM Punk since the Royal Rumble, leaving John Cena as the companies only big remaining singles star.

Hopefully its a short window until his return, but ultimately anything over about 6-8 weeks, or two pay-per-views might cause the WWE to strip him of the title.

It also could have a large trickle down effect on current talent, and I don’t think a lot of the mid-card is quite ready for a big promotion any time soon.

Lets just hope Bryan can recover as quickly as possible.
