England Practice Penalties Ahead Of World Cup… With No Goalkeepers

Roy Hodgson has taken an unconventional approach to working on penalties ahead of England‘s World Cup campaign.

Rather than practicing every day to make training shootouts as real as possible, the Three Lions boss has his squad hitting shot from the spot for fun.

AND without a goalkeeper to beat.

Instead, Hodgson and his coaching team have five targets for his players to aim at, in the hope it can improve their accuracy.

Hodgson said:

“We’ll have a few penalties for fun — but it’s more for the fun of it at the moment. I don’t think we’ll be practising penalties every day. It is not going to make a vast deal of difference until the group stage is over.”

It’s understood no definite penalty takers have been chosen but Steven Gerrard, Rickie Lambert, Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney and Leighton Baines would be in pole position to take one,

The hope is that England can avoid a penalty exit after being dumped out on spot-kicks at Italia 90, Euro 96 and France 98.
