Are Players Being Booked For Cupping Their Ear To Fans Now?

Nacer Chadli celebrated his goal in Tottenham‘s 1-1 draw with Arsenal tonight by cupping his ear while he ran towards the Emirates support.

And he immediately picked up a booking from referee Michael Oliver for that we can only predict was ‘excessive celebration’:

It raises the question – are referees being told to clamp down on celebrations like Chadli’s?

It certainly didn’t seem the case at Anfield earlier today when Steven Gerrard wasn’t punished for putting his hand to his ear while celebrating his goal in front of the Everton fans:

Good on the Premier League – just when they finally introduce goal-line technology, they let themselves down with things like this.
