James Jones: Derek Carr Is The Next Aaron Rodgers

James Jones: Derek Carr Is The Next Aaron Rodgers

Oakland Raiders wide receiver James Jones has compared rookie quarterback Derek Carr to Green Bay PackersAaron Rodgers.

Carr looks set to start the Raiders’ opening game against the New York Jets on Sunday, beating veteran Matt Schaub to the position.

And Jones – who spent six seasons catching passes from Rodgers at Lambeau Field – is not surprised Dennis Allen has opted for the rookie out of Fresno State.

He said:

“He’s really calm, really cool in the pocket.

“He acts like he’s been there before. I’ve been calling him mini A-Rod since he got here.”

Raiders centre Stefen Wisniewski also praised Carr after revealing the QB knew every offensive call in the playbook on the first day of training camp in July.

He said:

“He’s not your typical rookie.

“He’s got an NFL quarterback older brother that’s been teaching him for years. He understands defenses at a very advanced level more than most rookies would. I think Derek gets way more prepared than most rookies would be.”

If he is handed the starting jersey, he will become the first rookie QB to ever start the opener for the Raiders.
