Brendan Rodgers has compared the state of his current Liverpool side to the one he inherited after taking over from Kenny Dalglish in 2012.

At that time, several expensive new signings had failed to make the grade and the club finished the 2011/2012 season in eighth place.

Their start to this season has surprised many after their second-place finish last term.

But, again, several new signings, including controversial striker Mario Balotelli, are adapting to life on Merseyside and Rodgers admits the team is a work in progress:
