Arsene Wenger Slams Paul Merson Over Arsenal Criticism

Arsene Wenger has hit back at Paul Merson after the former Arsenal star branded his team “tactically clueless” last week.

Sky Sports pundit Merson criticised his old team following their 3-3 Champions League draw with Anderlecht – where the Belgians somehow recovered from 3-0 down at half-time at the Emirates.

Merson said:

“This is not the first time it’s happened, it’s happened a lot.

“The players are all internationals, they’re not little kids. They play in World Cups and the Premier League but they are all bombing forward. Clueless.”

And that elicited a dismissive response from Wenger who believes he’s got no time for criticisms from ex-players who have never managed.

He responded:

“I managed him. I tried him. I’m not interested in Paul Merson.

“Honestly, it does not matter to me. You are free. You can say what you like.”
