It’s the trend that has taken the world of football by storm – the hipster beard.
However, we can’t imagine Turan will be too happy to hear that back in his native Turkey, the chairman of Süper Lig side Genclerbiligi is going to fine any player who grows facial hair – approximately L25,000 (around £7,150).
In one of the most bizarre rants in European football, Ilhan Cavcav claims he is tired of seeing his players sporting the popular mountain-man look.
He spoke to the Dogan news agency via The Guardian:
“I am 80-years-old, and I shave every single day.
“Man, is this an imam-hatip school?
“You are a sportsman. You should be a (role) model for the youth.”
Cavcav hilariously accused UEFA for allowing the trend to spread, after he appealed to the chairman of the Turkish FA, Yildirim Demiroren to ban all beards:
“He [Demiroren] told me that they could not impose such a restriction because UEFA would not let them do it.
“I am fed up with this UEFA. I wish we had some other place to play our football.”
Yep, spot on, THAT is what is wrong with UEFA, ladies and gentlemen…
