Jamie Carragher has come out this evening to say that Steven Gerrard is giving Brendan Rodgers a problem in his position at the bottom of the diamond for Liverpool due to the lack of ability and pace up front – although more Liverpool fans would say that the rest of the team is giving Gerrard a problem.
Carragher makes the point that throughout his time at Liverpool he has always had pace in attack to target and without it he is less effective – defensively he doesn’t protect the back four and his passing ability is nullified by having nothing to aim for – and it’s maybe time to make a change in that position.
It’s a bold statement to drop Gerrard, especially when it comes from one of his old mates. However, as is most often the case, Carragher makes a very good point.
