Men’s fashion chain Burton has apologised to Rangers for selling a line of t-shirts featuring the club’s founders with the words “underworld division champions”.

Furious Gers fans complained to the store about the product after images emerged on social media.

But Burton have denied any knowledge of a connection to the club and issued a statement apologising for any offence caused.

A spokesperson said: “We wish to apologise unreservedly for any offence caused by the t-shirt displayed on our website. It has been removed from the site and will not be re-appearing.

“We would like to assure you that we were unaware of any connection to Rangers Football Club and any reference was purely inadvertent.

“Thank you for bringing it to our attention and allowing us to rectify the situation.”

Ibrox fans were outraged to discover the brand of t-shirt which makes reference to the ‘zombies’ tag which supporters from other clubs in Scotland, including Old Firm rivals Celtic, have labelled on Rangers since their liquidation back in 2012.
