Should We Have Known That Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi Are Too Smart To Risk Anything In a Friendly?

Should We Have Known That Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi Are Too Smart To Risk Anything In a Friendly?

The Old Trafford crowd would be right to feel slightly hoodwinked following Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s departure at half-time in the Portugal-Argentina game this evening.

There was never any doubt that they’d be taking it easy, but the build up of Messi vs. Ronaldo likely raised a few pulses beforehand. But we should know better by now. It wasn’t long before Angel Di Maria joined them.

A different story in the Scotland-England game though. I’m sure Louis van Gaal’s heart will have been in his mouth as he saw Shaw go down after a fairly robust challenge in the first half. If United lose any more players they’ll be asking Sir Alex to come back… and to bring his boots with him, he’s on at Centre Half – in front of Chris Smalling.
