Delighted Robin van Persie admitted that he got a touch on the ball before Juan Mata’s goal against Liverpool – then claimed he must be entitled to an assist.
The Manchester United striker flicked on a cross from Ashley Young which found its way to Mata who was in an offside position.
Mata headed home and the goal was allowed to stand, doubling United’s lead at Old Trafford after Wayne Rooney had opened the scoring.
But in the post-match interview RVP was tasked with handing the Man of the Match champaign to goalkeeper David de Gea after another unbeatable performance between the sticks.
When asked if he got a touch on the ball, van Persie said: ” I got a touch, yes.”
The Dutchman netted United’s third in the second half to make it seven goals in nine starts against Liverpool.
And after the match he insisted he had to be truthful about his part in Mata’s goal.
He added: ” I have to be honest, I got a touch. So you can put that down as an assist.”
The win for Louis van Gaal’s side sees them make it six straight wins.
However, it was another worrying day at the office for Brendan Rodgers and his misfiring strikers.
