5 Reasons Why WWE Has To Bring Back King Of The Ring

The King of the Ring was once a staple of the WWE calendar.

We saw legends like Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Edge and Bret Hart take the iconic title.

But, since 2002, we’ve been denied the pay-per-view favourite.

Here are five reasons why King of the RIng has to return:

1. Opportunities For Young Talent

WWE prides itself on its production line of young stars-in-the-making, but the lack of opportunities of late is grim.

A change of format where it’s ran as an NXT-only tournament with the winner getting an intercontinental title shot at the next PPV would work well amongst fans, who already see NXT as one of the main shows WWE has to offer.

2. It’s Always Been The Platform For The Company’s Biggest Stars

From Harley Race to Macho Man Randy Savage, Hart to Stone Cold Steve Austin, this tournament was a sling shot to success for what became the WWE’s biggest stars.

3. It Housed The Most Extreme Match The WWE Universe Has Ever Witnessed

Undertaker versus Mankind at KOTR 1998 certainly wasn’t for the faint-hearted.

What unfolded in that Hell In The Cell match pushed the Attitude Era to its very limits and kept King Of The Ring on the map as one of the compay’s biggest draws.

4. It Could Bring Purpose Back To The Intercontinental Title

The IC title has struggled for any presence for years and a title shot for the winner would really bring it back into the main picture if held by the next big star.

5. Austin 3:16

The most iconic saying in the history of the WWE was born at KOTR 1996 and is still echoed through the WWE Universe nearly 20 years on.
