The AC Milan defender was given his marching orders by referee Paolo Mazzoleni in stoppage time of their 3-1 defeat in Rome.
Lazio were heading for a convincing 3-1 victory thanks to two goals from Marco Parolo and Miroslav Klose in the Serie A clash.
Milan were left frustrated as they struggled towards another disappointing result, and Mexes reflected that when he picked up a second yellow card for a clash with Lazio captain Stefano Mauri.
But the Frenchman wasn’t finished there – as he got Mauri into a chokehold before several players had to rush in to drag the defender away:
Mexes is set to pick up a lengthy ban now following the dismissal.
Amazingly, Mauri was actually handed a yellow card despite being virtually static in the whole incident.
The result leaves Milan sitting languishing ninth in the Serie A and with much left to do if they want to clinch a European spot next season.
