Radamel Falcao’s short spell at Old Trafford looks to be drawing to a close.
The Columbian superstar has struggled to hold down a regular starting berth since arriving on-loan from Monaco last summer.
Injury and the impressive form of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie have meant the striker has often been forced to settle for a place on the United bench.
But the former Atletico Madrid man couldn’t even manage that for today’s clash with Southampton, as Louis Van Gaal dropped the fully-fit hitman entirely from his match day squad.
When pressed on selection before the game, van Gaal told reporters: “Falcao isn’t injured, just not selected in the squad. It’s much more difficult (selecting a squad) but that’s the task of the manager and I have a staff who advise me as well.”
It now looks increasingly unlikely that van Gaal will part with the rumoured £40M-plus fee required to make Falcao’s transfer permanent.
