As Manchester City and Arsenal prepare to square off in tomorrow’s crucial Premier League clash, it has emerged that Gunners star man Alexis Sanchez could have been wearing light blue – had it not been for Sir Alex Ferguson’s late intervention.
It has emerged that City had agreed personal terms with the Chilean and tied up a £26.5 million deal with Udinese back in 2011 – only for the then Manchester United manager to step in and try and gazump his bitter rivals by lodging a more sizeable offer with the Serie A club.
According to sources close to Sanchez, the Scot’s late bid caused his camp to hesitate on hold off joining City.
Ironically, the move eventually stalled for both Manchester clubs, and Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola took advantage of the uncertainty.
However, City fans shouldn’t feel too down – they signed Sergio Aguero that summer instead.
