AC Milan are planning to build a new 48,000-seater stadium – and have taken inspiration from English football grounds.
The Serie A giants submitted plans to redevelop the Portello area of Milan to create an innovative area which will include a hotel, a sports college, restaurants, children’s playground, green areas and spaces reserved to artists and citizens.
Arup – the designers of the project – have also created Bayern Munich’s new stadium and the new stadium in Beijing.
According to the club, the project “takes its inspiration from the English model: a stadium that can be reached by public transport and by doing so encouraging fans to be more environmentally aware. The entire project has a common theme which is sustainability”.
It’s expected to create around 1000 jobs with the stadium being half the size of the iconic San Siro – their current stadium.
But arguably the most interesting feature is the club’s promise of no noise – where the club says:
Thanks to the latest technology and sound-proof materials the noise will be reduced to a minimum to those on the outside.
As you can see from the pictures, the project is a vast one which could have major economic benefits to the city.
