Jose Mourinho has claimed the French Football Federation should write him a thank you letter for the progression Kurt Zouma and Raphael Varane.
The Chelsea boss coached Varane during his time as Real Madrid boss, signing the centre-back from Lens as an 18-year-old in 2011.
Mourinho added Zouma to his Blues squad this season after snapping up the imposing defender from St Ettiene last year in a £12million deal.
Both players had been earmarked from greatness from a very young age, and were chased by a host of Europe’s top clubs.
But the self proclaimed Special One insisted today that the credit for the duo’s rise to the top of European football should be laid firmly at his door.
During his weekly press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Aston Villa, a surly and moody Mou said: “I think the French Federation should write a letter to thank me for the two best defenders in the world.”
The comments will lead to increased speculation that Mourinho will try to raid his former club in the summer in a bid to united Varane with Zouma at Stamford Bridge next season.
