Mario Balotelli is European football’s top penalty taker, according to a table published by Spanish website as.com.
The Liverpool striker controversially took over spotkick duties from team-mate Jordan Henderson to net in last week’s 1-0 Europa League last-16 first leg win over Besiktas.
That led to criticism from a whole host of pundits and former players – including current club captain Steven Gerrard, who was speaking on TV after the game.
According to Gerrard it was a sign of disrespect from Balotelli.
But we don’t know why there has been so much fuss – he’s Europe’s most clinical penalty taker.
According to as.com, he beats Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cristiano Ronaldo and Frank Lampard for form from the spot.
Of the 30 penalties he’s taken in his career, he’s scored 28 with a 93% success rate, while Ibra in second has 87% with 54 from 62 attempts hitting the back of the net.
