Two years ago, Borussia Dortmund fans were on top of the world.
The only real competitors to Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga crown were going well in the Champions League – a competition they would later reach the final of.
Dortmund also had a strong team, a side which looked more than capable of growing into one of the most dominant in the club’s rich history.
Fast forward 24 months and the club sit bottom of the Bundesliga after just four wins from 19 games and the supporters are understandably distraught.
And to make matters worse, with their side floundering in the relegation battle, Dortmund lost 1-0 to 4th placed Augsberg tonight at the Westfalenstadion.
Borussia captain Mats Hummels and goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller reacted bravely by approaching and speaking to their fans in the crowd at the final whistle:
Dortmund will play 15th placed Freiburg in their next match, knowing that a win away from home will pull the club free of the relegation zone they have so frequently occupied this term.
