Paul Gascoigne Opens Up About Sir Alex Ferguson’s Disappointment When He Snubbed Manchester United For Spurs

Paul Gascoigne was a guest on the Fletch and Sav show on BT Sport this morning and told of the time he outraged Sir Alex Ferguson by snubbing his offer to sign for Manchester United.

Gazza shared memories of his footballing past. He stated his only dream in football was to be capped for England and appears to get pretty choked up when he tells of the moment that dream became reality.

He also told of the time everything was in place for him to sign for Manchester United. All that was missing was his signature, but when Tottenham stepped in at the last-minute, things changed and England legend put pen to paper for the North London club.

Gazza jokingly states the offer from Spurs of a sunbed for his sister was too good to say no to and in the end swayed his decision to sign.

Once terms were agreed with Tottenham, Gascoigne received what he thought was his first piece of fan mail. Instead, it was a letter from Sir Alex Ferguson questioning his decision to knock back ‘the greatest team in the world.’

Fellow guest Russell Brand tweeted this picture of the pair before Tottenham and West Ham’s 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane:
