Cambuur supporters showed they are geared up for Sunday’s derby with Heerenveen as thousands turned up with pyrotechnics to watch their side train yesterday.
Fans packed the little Cambuur Stadion to see Henk de Jong put his side through their paces.
And the players wouldn’t have expected such staunch support after losing every one of their last five games with their last victory coming in the middle of December.
The rivalry between Cambuur and Heerenveen dates back to when the former’s predecessors, vv. Leeuwarden, were a club.
Both were the biggest teams in the Province of Friesland until Leeuwarden were declared bankrupt – that paved the way for Cambuur’s creation in 1964 and they immediately assumed responsibility of rivaling Heerenveen.
The fans obviously know the history as they showed just important the clash is as the club opened its doors for an open training session.
