This afternoon the WWE announced on the eve of their biggest event of the year, Wrestlemania 31, that they have successfully re-signed former UFC Heavyweight Champion and current WWE Champion Brock Lesnar to a new contract.

Lesnar made the announcement today on ESPN’s Sportscenter and stated that this contract officially “closes the door” on his return to MMA in the future. Considering that the Beast is currently 37 years of age, that makes a whole lot of sense. He mentioned that while training to return to the UFC that something was not there “mentally” and that this was his best course of action.
The deal is expect to be in the range of three to five years and any return to UFC after that would be more difficult for him than it would be even now. His last appearance was a UFC 141 in December of 2011 where he lost via knockout in the first round to Alistair Overeem.
This is great news for all fans of WWE and potential sour news for fans of UFC hoping that Brock Lesnar would return to fight there. He’s a marquee attraction anywhere he goes and pay-per-view numbers are a sign of that.
One of the most interesting aspect of this news is the impact it could have on the main event of Wrestlemania where Lesnar is slated to take on number one contender Roman Reigns.
With a contract in place, it helps add a wrinkle to whether he will retain his WWE title or relinquish it to one of the hottest rising superstars in the WWE today.
