Wayne Rooney: It’s Great to See Jonas Gutierrez Make Return to Football

Wayne Rooney has praised Jonas Gutierrez after he made his return to football to complete his recovery from cancer treatment.

The Manchester United star watched on as the Newcastle wide man came on for Ryan Taylor in the 65th-minute of the clash at St James’ Park.

Gutierrez’s football career appeared in serious doubt after his testicular cancer diagnosis last year.

But the Argentinian fans’ favourite was given the all-clear in November and made his competitive return for Newcastle last night.

He was given a rousing reception by the Geordie faithful and Rooney has praised him on social media for making the comeback.

He said:

Great team spirit shown by the lads last night and a big 3 points. It was also great to see Jonas Gutierrez make his return to football!

Rooney also praised his side for bagging a much-needed 1-0 win to keep them in the top four of the English Premier League.

With the game heading for a bore 0-0 draw, Ashley Young hit the net after some poor Newcastle defending to give United the points.

David de Gea also praised Gutierrez for making his return, with the club posting this on Instagram:
