Boxing fans were asked on March 31, who they want to see Amir Khan fight next and were given five boxers to choose: Kell Brook, Miguel Cotto, Adrien Broner, Keith Thurman and Chris Algieri.
By Ross Brady – @rossbrady29
Khan announced that he will fight the latter Algieri yesterday on May 30. But was that the match-up supporters wanted to see?
The battle of Britain with Brook was the one fans most wanted to see with more than half the vote at 54%. And Nottingham fighter Brook has stated Khan’s decision to fight Algieri has shown him ‘a lack of respect.’
Next up on the list was ‘The Problem’ Broner who had 19% of the vote, with veteran Cotto taking 13%.
Thurman was a fight nine per cent of people wanted to see, but what about the opponent Khan actually chose?
Only TWO per cent of the British public wanted to see Bolton boxer Khan take on Algieri.
But that’s the fight they are going to see.
A stark contrast from the bout most of us wanted against unbeaten Brook.
But then again the sport of boxing has a habit of making us wait for the fights we want.. hopefully Floyd Mayweather Jr v Manny Pacquaio will be worth that wait.
