Jon Jones will not fight against Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 as rumours circulate he’s been involved in a major car accident on Sunday night.
Light heavyweight champion Jones was scheduled to defend his title against Johnson on May 23rd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
But according to mmaweekly.com he’ll not feature – and that coincides with rumours on social media that he was involved in a hit and run on Saturday evening.
The news was first broke by FrontRowBrian – one half of podcast the Front Row Brian Show – on Twitter:
That was followed by more serious allegations that Jones was in police custody, had run a red light, had been drinking, ran from the scene and that there was cocaine found:
But FrontRowBrian was forced to backtrack on the above tweet – insisting he doesn’t have enough information:
And that was supported by Albuquerque Police taking to Twitter to say they cannot confirm Jones’ involvement in a hit and run:
We CANNOT confirm that Jon Jones was involved in a H&R traffic accident from this morning. The investigation is ongoing.

So it’s still unclear whether Jones is being investigated or has even been involved in the hit and run.
But with him missing out on UFC 187 and the level of rumours, there may be something concrete to break on Jones over the next few hours.
