Over 300 Porto fans turned up at Francisco de Sa Carneiro airport at 3am last night to welcome home their team after the crushing Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich.
The Portuguese giants headed to Germany with a 3-1 lead for their quarter-final second-leg clash.
Julen Lopetegui’s men had been seriously impressive as they ran up the advantage just a week before.
But they were brutally turned over by a brilliant Bayern team as they found themselves 5-0 down at half-time.
Porto went on to lose the game 6-1, with Jackson Martinez scoring a late consolation goal, and the tie 6-3 on aggregate.
Yet that didn’t stop the club’s supporters turning out in the middle of the night to show their support ahead of a domestic run-in which sees them trail Benfica by three points in the league title race.
It’s a gesture like this which restores your faith in football and realise not all fans are out to get their manager sacked when they suffer a big defeat.
