“The Lunatics Have Taken Over The Asylum” – Twitter Reacts After Wigan Appoint Gary Caldwell As Manager

“The Lunatics Have Taken Over The Asylum” – Twitter Reacts After Wigan Appoint Gary Caldwell As Manager

Wigan have acted quickly in appointing a new manager, with former captain Gary Caldwell taking the reigns following Malky Mackay’s sacking yesterday.

Mackay parted ways with the club following another disappointing Championship defeat to Derby County, forcing the Latics to turn to Caldwell to rescue their season.

Wigan are currently languishing 23rd in the league and are eight points from safety.

But the club will be hoping ex-Scotland international Caldwell can turn things around.

The 32-year-old retired earlier this season, suffering from a recurring hip problem but was an essential part of Wigan’s squad which won the FA Cup in 2013.

However, despite Caldwell playing over 100 games for the club, those who use social media were far from convinced with his appointment.

In fact, they found the news of the former Celtic defender taking the hotseat to be all together quite amusing:
