Brendan Rodgers Denies Liverpool Ever Wanted to Sign New Manchester United Man Memphis Depay

Brendan Rodgers has revealed Liverpool never wanted to sign Memphis Depay before he moved to Manchester United.

The PSV winger yesterday sealed a deal to become an Old Trafford player in the summer.

And everyone would have you believe Louis van Gaal beat Rodgers to the highly-rated Dutchman’s signature.

The United boss actually said this morning that he had to move quickly to tie up Depay because PSG had shown a serious interest.

But Rodgers has denied Liverpool were ever interested – and says he has transfer targets in other positions.

He said:

He is a young, talented player but we already have four wingers at the club: Raheem Sterling, Jordon Ibe, Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic.

We have other priorities we are looking at through the course of the summer but with the players we have in those positions, particularly on the left side, we are quite well stocked.

It’s a revelation which is sure to frustrate some Liverpool fans after their dismal season and the lack of success players like Lallana and Markovic have brought in their first campaign at the club.
