Carlo Ancelotti has defended Zinedine Zidane over criticism of his first full season as Castilla manager.
The Real Madrid legend failed to get the club’s B team into the play-offs of the Segunda B despite having a talented squad which includes Norwegian wonderkid Martin Odegaard.
But not that Ancelotti cares.
The under-pressure top team boss believes Zidane has done exactly what he’s been asked and with him in charge of Castilla, Madrid have some talented stars ready to break into the first team.
The main objective of the youth academy is to develop and improve the youngsters, and in that Zizou has done a great job.
We have very good young players to represent the club in the future
Ancelotti is also under pressure as Real Madrid stare at a trophy-less season.
Their Champions League semi-final exit at the hands of Juventus on Wednesday means they will surrender their title as European champions.
And if Barcelona – who are also in the Copa Del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao – beat Atletico Madrid today, they’ll secure the La Liga title and the first trophy of a possible treble.
It remains to be seen whether Madrid president Florentino Perez will give Ancelotti another season or look for a new boss in the summer.
