Celtic are closing in on a deal for Lechia Gdansk defender Rafal Janicki, according to reports in Poland.
Primarily a centre back, 22-year-old Janicki is also comfortable operating in either full-back role, which is said to be a key factor in Hoops boss Ronny Deila’s interest.
Janicki, who started his career with Chemik Police, has made 102 appearances for Lechia, scoring one goal in the process, and is valued at around £2 million. The imposing stopper has made five appearances for the Polish under-19s but has yet to make the step up to full international matches.
The move for Janicki comes just a few days after Celtic missed out on one of their primary summer transfer targets, Mitchell Dijks. Dutchman Dijks spurned the opportunity to sign for the Premiership champions in favour of joining Ajax and staying in his homeland.
Meanwhile, the Hoops have also been linked with a move for Hibs starlet Scott Allan. Allan has been in scintillating form for Alan Stubbs’s side this season, and has long been linked with a move to Rangers.
But the Scottish Daily Mail are reporting that Allan is a frequent conversation topic across Glasgow, and is seen as a perfect partner for Scott Brown.
