Fabio Cannavaro Dedicates Facebook Post to Steven Gerrard By Mistakenly Using Picture of Frank Lampard

Fabio Cannavaro would have been red-faced this afternoon after mistakenly using a picture of Frank Lampard in his online tribute to Steven Gerrard.

The Italian legend took to Facebook to write a message as Gerrard played his last game at Anfield yesterday before leaving for LA Galaxy this summer.

The message was pretty hashtag heavy, but he was surely relying on the picture of him clashing with his opponent during an international clash between England and Italy in 2002.

But when the photo is actually former Chelsea and current Manchester City midfielder Lampard, it goes all wrong:

As you’d expect, Cannavaro promptly deleted the post – but not before some eagle-eyed follower screen grabbed the mistake in all its glory.

And among the sea of Gerrard tributes this weekend, we have to applaud Cannavaro for his absolute disregard for getting it right.

Brilliant.
