Veteran Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon will take on Real Madrid tonight in the second leg of a highly anticipated Champions League semi-final.
And the Italian will have to be on top of his game if he is to stop the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s game, Buffon discussed the best strikers he has ever faced and admitted Celtic legend Henrik Larsson is amongst the very best.
The 37-year-old World Cup winner said:
“Over my career I have played against some of the best strikers there has ever been. Both Ronaldos, Roberto Baggio, Zlatan Ibrahimovic – and I can honestly say Larsson is not out of place in those names. I faced him against Celtic and Sweden and he was a player to fear, he was very special.
“Celtic got his best years and I am sure the fans will always remember how fantastic it was to have one of the best players in the world for so many seasons.”
When asked about the atmosphere of the Old Firm, one which Larsson was regularly at ease in, and how it compares with the rest of Europe, Buffon added:
“I do understand why so many players talk about the atmosphere at Celtic and Rangers.
“It is very intense. The only place I can compare Glasgow with is Istanbul at Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.”
