As far as superstar goalkeepers go, Bayern Munich and Germany stopper Manuel Neuer is the very best.
And as his team prepare to take on Barcelona in the semi-finals of the Champions League on Wednesday night, the 29-year-old claims he has special plans for Lionel Messi.
Neuer was part of the Germany team which prevailed 1-0 over Messi’s Argentina in the World Cup final last summer and the sweeper keeper believes he can keep out the Barca number 10 once again this week.
Neuer told L’Equipe:
I have a lot of respect for Messi and for everything that he has achieved. He is very humble.
But it’s crucial to show authority when we meet on the pitch and show him who’s boss. I did the same in the World Cup final and this worked out pretty well.
We will be looking to do the same on Wednesday night. It is vital to obtain a position of dominance and instil respect.
The first leg will take place at Barcelona’s Nou Camp stadium, before the Bundesliga champions host the second leg at the Allianz Arena.
