VIDEO: Abel Hernandez Punches Phil Jones But Referee Misses Incident

Abel Hernandez was lucky not to pick up a red card after punching Phil Jones during Hull against Manchester United.

The Uruguayan forward was a 70th-minute substitute for Steve Bruce’s men as his side desperately tried to find a goal which could potentially keep them in the Premier League.

Hull needed to beat United and hope Newcastle either drew or lost to West Ham to avoid relegation.

But Hernandez almost made their task a whole lot more difficult as he punched Jones straight in the stomach just five minutes after coming off the bench:

It ended badly for both Hull and Hernandez anyway though as their 0-0 draw coupled with a 2-0 victory for Newcastle against West Ham consigned them to relegation.

Bruce, his players and the fans looked devastated at full-time and will need to pick themselves up soon if they are to return to the Premier League at the first opportunity next term.
