Ex-Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien today signed for Greek giants Panathinaikos, a team that is as well known for their exploits on the pitch as their crazy fans are off of it.
And as you’d expect the Ghana international received a typical low-key welcome.
Y’know just the standard few thousand mental supporters and plenty of over-the-top pyrotechnics.
Nothing too fancy then…
Essien spent last season at AC Milan but made just 9 appearances for the Serie A giants, meaning he was looking for pastures new this summer.
And the 32-year-old will be looking to end his career on a high in Greece after he Tweeted his excitement at having joined Pana on a two-year contract:

Essien made 168 appearances for Chelsea during his 9-year spell at Stamford Bridge before following Jose Mourinho to the Bernabeu to spend a season on loan at Real Madrid.
The experienced veteran will be looking to add to his impressive trophy haul of two Premier League titles, two Ligue 1 titles and a UEFA Champions League.
