Kolo Toure has explained to the media his bizarre confrontation with a Koala bear during Liverpool’s ongoing tour of Australia.
The Reds have spent time meeting some of their adoring fans down under this week, and many players were photographed with the cuddly Aussie mascot.
But the mere site of a koala bear sent the Ivorian running off in terror, refusing to go anywhere near it, much to his team mates confusion.
Asked about the incident, he said: “I’m not really a big fan of animals.
“It wasn’t anything against koalas. I’ve had a dog at home for seven years and I’ve never even touched it.
“I can look at animals but I can’t bring myself to touch them!”
The veteran centre-back has been blown away by the club’s support, after being serenaded in both Brisbane and Adelaide with the Kolo/Yaya song.
“It’s amazing. For me, it’s something really special,” he said.
“It shows that all the work I put in every day pays off.
“Every time I hear that song I feel really proud. It makes me want to give more.”
