Louis Van Gaal ‘Very Proud’ of Ed Woodward Over Manchester United Signings

Louis van Gaal insists he’s very proud of Ed Woodward after the signings of four top stars so far this summer.

The Manchester United boss held his first press conference of the club’s US tour in Seattle tonight.

And he used the opportunity to present Bastian Schweinsteiger, Matteo Darmian and Morgan Schneiderlin to the media as well.

In an explosive talk with the press, van Gaal confirmed he expects Angel Di Maria and Javier Hernandez to join his squad later this month, but there is no place for Victor Valdes at United.

But with Schweinsteiger, Darmian and Schneiderlin following Memphis Depay in the door over the last few days, van Gaal has hailed Woodward for his summer’s work.

Speaking on his new players, van Gaal said:

They know already that they have to fight for their position. It’s never secure. Morgan has to fight with Schweinsteiger, Carrick, Blind… these are the players who can play in the centre of midfield.

Darmian has to fight with Valencia. He knows that and Valencia knows that also. And Michael Carrick knows as well – I told him at the end of last season.

The difficulty is to get these players – it’s not so easy – and I’m very proud, especially of Ed Woodward, that he’s done that.

Woodward has been praised by many United fans for securing the signatures of four in-demand players so quickly during the window.

And he could still have more to do between now and the end of the summer transfer window, with United linked with a move for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.
