The Cardinals boast a league-best record of 61-34, so they aren’t a very flawed team. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny may have possibly spotted a flaw in his bullpen, something that looks shored up for now.
The 29-year-old Cishek has racked up 91 saves from 2011 to 2014 on 253 1/3 innings pitched with a 2.70 ERA though things have fallen apart for him as of late. Cishek has lost some velocity on his fastball, his role as the Marlins closer replaced by A.J. Ramos, and high strikeout-per-nine stat has fallen from double digits to 7.9 K/9 this year. Cishek will likely share closing duties with Trevor Rosenthal.
I also could see Cishek becoming Matheny’s eighth inning set-up man reliever. Cishek and Rosenthal could combine to create a great late-game one-two punch.
Barraclough is a Double-AA Reliever who was drafted by St. Louis In the seventh round of the 2012 MLB Draft. The 25-year-old Barraclough performed well at the High-A level before control issues plagued his Double-AA experience. The Right-Hander will need to refine his skills in a big way before he moves up another step in the”‘MLB Ladder”. He will join the Jacksonville Suns, the Double-AA affiliate of the Marlins.
