Scott Brown Congratulates Leigh Griffiths After He’s Handed Number 9 Jersey at Celtic

Scott Brown congratulated Leigh Griffiths after the Celtic striker was rewarded for his impressive last season by getting the number 9 jersey at the club.

The Hoops hitman scored 20 goals in all competitions last season as Ronny Deila’s side won the Premiership and League Cup.

That’s an even more impressive total when you consider he spent the first few months of the campaign playing backup to John Guidetti.

But after seeing off the challenge of the Swedish striker, Griffiths has also managed to grab his old number at the club – indicating that Deila sees him as his main striker for the coming season..

Guidetti wore nine while on loan at Parkhead last season, but is now on the lookout for a new team after his deal expired at both Celtic and Manchester City.

Now club captain Brown has dedicated a message on Instagram to his friend after he got handed the iconic strip:

@leighgriffiths28 wow number 9 well done weeman

Deila added Nadir Ciftci to his attacking arsenal this week after signing up the former Dundee United man in a £1.5million deal.

Celtic fans – will Griffiths lead the line alone this season or will it be alongside Ciftci? Let us know in the comments below.
